Namco’s 1981 sequel to Galaxian is one of the most influential – and best – arcade games of all time. Alien spacecraft swarm into the level in a set pattern, and dedicated players can master the bonus rounds for higher scores. Galaga’s best mechanic allows players to purposefully lose a life by having their ship captured – only to reclaim it and double their firepower. High risk, high reward, and extremely satisfying.
