Few sounds in games are more iconic than the “Reeeesident Evil!” announcer from this series’ start screens. In fact, Resident Evil is full of horrifying sounds – the slow shuffle of a groaning zombie, the crack of slamming wood as an enemy bursts through a door, the impotent “click” of an empty handgun. Resident Evil has changed styles over the years, from survival horror to action series and then back again, building a beautifully ridiculous mythology and scaring the hell out of us along the way. Resident Evil 4, in particular, belongs in any “best game of all time” conversation.
