This artwork is based on the cult classic game, Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP. Superbrothers is an elegant and exploratory action-adventure game with an emphasis on audiovisual style, expressive mechanics and a soulful narrative. It tells the story of a lonely warrior monk traversing a lush, mythical realm to solve musical mysteries.
The developer for this game is also named Superbrothers, founded in 2003 by illustrator and game creator Craig D. Adams. Adams’ artistic influence comes from games created by Shigeru Miyamoto and Nintendo as well as early cinematic-style video games like Prince of Persia by Jordan Mechner and Eric Chahi’s Out of This World.
The art style for the game is a fascinating showcase of lush woodland landscapes with an abstract design for the people and creatures, all done in a unique ‘painted’ pixel look. The mood and aesthetics of this game are conveyed in this artwork and would be a great display piece.
